This is primarily for younger users like myself. What do you plan on doing with your life? Something creative, intellectual, whatever pays the bills, etc.? Personally, I want to become a college professor of history, biology, anthropology, psychology, or English. My second choice would be a writer. A few years ago, I would've said that I wanted to become a musician, but I've matured since then, becoming more realistic, like my father. lol.

I am currently in college majoring in Political Science and Economics. I plan to go on to grad school, but after that, I am not sure. Maybe I will be a professor, but what I really want is to be able to make policy decisions, and those only happen at the high levels. I have a hard time seeing myself in an entry level position at, say, the State Department, and not being miserable, but government work is what I have always seen myself doing.

With all these writers here I kind wish I could take a look at your respective works, but hey, I guess that some write in their native language and most would probably be stressed by strangers looking at their writings.

The plan right now is to be an English teacher in Japan. I have a degree in Japanese Language&Literature and a degree in Psychology. Should have tripled up with Education, but I wasn't really thinking I'd be a teacher at the time. Sorta figured I'd end up being a social worker, but I really really  just want to live in other parts of the world. I'm pretty confident I'll get into this program, but they haven't OK'd me for an  interview yet.

I applied last year to teach English in Shangai as part of a Disney Wolrd thing, but life got in the way and I had to retract my application. I'm feeling pretty hopeful about this Japanese program though!

After I get some education experience under my belt, I plan on going to get a Master's Degree in Education Counseling and be a Counselor. One step at a time though.

Now that you have spoken, I have forgotten to mention that what I really want for my future isn't quite a career, but simply traveling (walking or in a trailer) for my whole country and maybe even to other countries, even if it gonna be dangerous, alone or in the company of one or two people that I love, visiting different places, not only the tourist points but mainly the most unknown and solitary places. Not to mention the different types of people to meet. Because idk, I'm tired of my day after day, tired of things I know and tired of everything around, but life have too much to give and can be too ugly but too beautiful at the same time, I just want to meet all. But, well, it's a utopian fantasy, and for now, a faraway fantasy, for some reason$$$ that prevent me from having a trajectory at least a little more comfortable. So, let's go to "Plan B" and focus on more something closer to reality but that I have interest too.

Well, it's always been my dream to be a writer... but, I've accepted that that is realistically a terrible career choice so I'm going to try pursuing my second dream, of being a school psychologist. I'm really far off from that goal now though (I've got a looong way to go, haha). I love psychology, and I really want to be able to help people who are suffering, esp. children. I've always been better with children than adults/teens as well, and I've always wanted to help improve the awful school system and the way children are treated, esp. children who are going through difficult situations and/or have mental illnesses/learning disabilities. This way, I might get a chance to do that. I do still hope that I could possibly be a writer on the side though! It seems like many of us here share that hope, lol

Omg yes, you said exactly everything and I agree because I share the same motivations. Psychology isn't my main plan, but if I choose doing it I would like to work in the Juridicy area or in the Educational area. In the Juridicy area to act in adoption processes, in problematic families and in prisons to deal with detainees and their families, because just as the educational system is full of failures, the "prison system" is also a shit here in Brazil, the person leaves even worse than when entered because no one seems to care with it, we just put the person in a cell and that's all. I don't give so much importance to me and I'm not naive enough to think that it will be easy, that I can simply change everything and that I would "save and change the cruel world", but I would like to try to do my part to help people in things that I believe are so vital to generate even more problems in the life of a person (problematic families and the failure prison system). The same with the school, when I think that many of the problems of several people started there, due to the negligence of teachers, bullying, lack of interest of the parents in knowing how the son is in at school, and all this great snowball that seems like no one notices and that it will end up having a strong impact in the rest of the life of that student who nobody gives attention or tried to help.

One of my childhood dreams was to be paleontologist but I kinda drifted away from it.

I'm currently working on getting a bachelor's degree in history then I'll try to join a game art formation in the ENJMIN school. Then, probably going to leave for Canada or something.

I still kinda hope the older me will do like some guys I see in uni and go back to scientific studies when older and more serious, but I don't feel able to engage in it now.

I don't plan to stop indulging in any of my hobbies and if I find success in writing or music for example, I may try to go professional.

I can't answer the actual question because I am too much of a spaz and have 40 different interests at any one time but my childhood dream was to be a paleontologist too and one of my bachelor's degress is in history, so basically, you're a pretty cool person.

I'm probably going to be a Literature Teacher, because I intend to study Portuguese language and Portuguese literature (and English language and English literature too, who knows, but I would like to learn English before, obviously, which actually is a bit far from my reality :P). I'm interested in this profession for several reasons. Besides my  passion for literature, I like to talk about it and mainly to take a taste of literature to others, one of the best things for me is to enthuse someone to read a book, especially a classic, because here in Brazil at least a lot of people "twist their noses" for the classics, and give up reading it because people put the classics on a pedestral and make students sometimes think that book is too difficult for them, that it have a "very difficult" language to understand, and so on. Being that in my opinion no, this seems to me a basic fear because, as I said, many teachers and many people usually put the classics on an altar, and the student looks at it and already gives up reading or doesn't enjoy the experience, because he thinks it's "too much" for him. But no, a classic book can be as fun as a contemporary, for example, it's just you picking it up to read as if it were a book, not an object from another planet.

But I'm interested in Psychology and Psychiatry too; maybe Nursing and Occupational Therapy.

I'll probably never stop writing, but I don't think I'll make it my profession. I would continue to treat, I believe, as a hobby for which I have a really intense passion. I don't know if I would like to sell what I write, and I think even if I were to publish books, I would do it under pseudonyms. The same with music, too (I have a taste and interest in music, but if I were to treat it as a profession, I would like to participate in the production of soundtracks. If I were to create a band, for example, I wouldn't like to act like vocalist or anything, but would like to have the creative freedom anyway).
